Vascular epiphyte diversity and host tree architecture in two forest management types in the Himalaya

چکیده

Epiphytes are one of the most diversified plant life forms, whose species richness peaks in tropics and subtropics. Here we examined vertical distribution metrics (i.e., number epiphyte individuals richness) vascular epiphytes orchids ferns) on two dominant host trees Schima wallichii (DC.) Korth. Quercus lanata Sm.) sub-tropical forests Nepal. We sampled a total 72 Q. S. from forest sites: government protected national park community managed forest. applied generalized linear mixed models Kruskal-Wallis rank sum tests to explain diversity by tree architecture diameter at breast height, crown size, forks, bark rugosity, pH layer), management types. After variable selection via multi-model inference technique, found height be powerful significant explanatory for across species, layers, Interestingly, was average higher than forest, particularly trunk below forks. conclude that effective conservation Nepal Himalaya requires old-growth through approaches. If large old stands maintained, can high provide ecosystem goods local people alike.

Vascular Epiphyte Diversity Differs with Host Crown Zone and Diameter, but Not Orientation in a Tropical Cloud Forest

Vascular epiphytes are important components of biological diversity in tropical forests. We measured the species richness and abundance of vascular epiphytes along four vertical crown zones and five horizontal orientations on 376 trees, as well as the diameter at breast height (DBH) of host trees in tropical cloud forests in Bawangling, Hainan, China. The relationship between vascular epiphyte ...

in current study, 63 samples of bat populations collected from differ regions were used for evaluating the geographic variations. twenty cranial and dental characters for traditional morphometric and landmarks method on the ventral, dorsal skull and mandible for geometry morphometric studies were used. statistical analyses of traditional morphometric and geometry morphometric data indicated low...

Exceptional Epiphyte Diversity on a Single Tree

An exhaustive survey of vascular epiphytes on a single mature canopy tree in a Costa Rican tropical premontane wet forest revealed an extraordinary level of epiphyte diversity. A total of 126 morphospecies representing at least 52 genera and 21 plant families were found growing epiphytically on the phorophyte (host tree), accounting for more than 1% of the entire vascular flora of Costa Rica. Species Diversity of Trees and Forest Floor Plants in Oriental beech Forest Types of Shastkalate Educational and Research Forest, Gorgan)

Trees are the most important biological elements of forest ecosystems. The variability of the tree species composition inhabiting in the Oriental beech forest, not only forms different forest types but also has a remarkable impact on the species diversity of forest floor plants, due to the existence of trees in the overstory layer. In this research, forest types of an an Oriental beech were ide...
